The Voice of Jupiter
The story of the Royal Albert Hall organ
Ian Bell
The towering façade of the Royal Albert Hall organ is familiar to most of us, but few have been privileged to discover – behind the scenes – what has made the instrument so famous. Ian Bell, consultant to the current restoration, recounts the story from the first suggestion of an organ for the proposed Hall, with detailed descriptions of the personalities and dramas surrounding each stage of the organ’s history. Extensive photographs, drawings, pipe scales and other technical details are included, together with previously unpublished proposals by the organ-builders whose tenders were unsuccessful. Foreword by Sir Edward Heath
